Hello! I've never seen this problem firsthand, but other people apparently have; there has been complaints about you playing Utsuho as too intelligent if that makes any sense. I know there's canon basis for Utsuho's intelligence in nuclear physics, but it looks like they're mostly concerned about Utsuho applying this intelligence in other areas she'd otherwise be ignorant in. So I think you should just be cautious about this in the future.
Different anon here. You're doing just fine with Okuu and I think your characterization is thoughtful and, more importantly, careful. Touhous are known to make people uncomfortable and that's obviously something none of us should ignore, but I and some others don't think that this particular critique about extending intelligence or powers is warranted.
As for how she learned to world hop- that was one part her and two parts Ferb. Okuu's been working for most, if not all, of her life as the one who maintains and regulates the Hell of Blazing Fires. Of course, whether she had to study for this or be trained is not known. I will admit to favoring the interpretation that she has to know her abilities to use them properly (which I believe an anon pointed out that interpretation is not uncommon among Touhou players not only for Okuu), as well as having an innate curiosity and fascination with the subject. For the first part, an anon already linked parts of her script in which she demonstrated knowledge of physics and nuclear mechanics- or at least the basics of it. Quantum chromodynamics is actually a subfield of nuclear physics, if her knowledge of that (or rather, lack of knowledge of it as stated in the specific thread to which the anon referred ) was any part of their concern. For the second part, within that same linked script Okuu definitely favors, glorifies, and emphasizes the power of nuclear energy- going all the way to calling it "ultimate". Yukari, in turn, calls that it goes "to the extent of evil", to which Utsuho may say that's just a misinterpretation. So there's much gusto and admiration of it on her part, and I believe that would give her the inspiration to make herself more knowledgeable on the subject.
It's true that Touhou players have to tread lightly in terms of headcanon and abilities, and I have been trying to be careful in making sure that my particular characterization of Okuu is backed with as much evidence as possible. And I see one anon there is concerned about this, but I see other anons defending this characterization. I hope that it's understandable that I'm a bit uncertain about this, seeing as the critique itself is both pushed for or against at best. But, yeah, I what I can see is that anon's concerns are legitimate considering the obscurity of Touhou. I'll definitely take all of this into consideration and be cautious about this in the future. As always, if she makes any uncomfortable in any way, my Opt-Out post is here.
Original anon here! After reconsideration I take back the original critique of saying you're making her too intelligent. It was only one anon on the rpanons thread complaining about it, and I came here on behalf of that anon. After seeing the debate it doesn't seem like there's actually any problem at all. That anon in particular has some grudge in general. Like I said before, I haven't seen this firsthand either. Sorry to be a bother!
